WANTED: Social media strategist for Social Signal

This position is now closed. If you're interested in working with us in the future, please let us know!

Social Signal is offering a great opportunity to be part of a team of smart, creative people who are making a difference in the world. If you are a social media expert with great strategic, writing and organizational skills, you can put your expertise and skills to work on projects that speak to your passion for social change. And you’ll find that the joy of working with kindred spirits can be matched by the thrill of helping our team do its best work and our business to thrive.

WHO WE ARE: Social Signal uses social media to foster the customer and supporter relationships that make organizations more responsive, innovative and effective. We offer companies, governments and non-profits a comprehensive range of strategic, development and community services. We help our clients develop concepts for new social media projects, conduct engagement audits to increase participation in existing communities, create technical blueprints and engagement plans that provide a roadmap for community development, and build sophisticated communities by convening and managing development and community services teams.

You may already know us from communities like NetSquared.org,  Facebook Green Gifts,Tyze.org, Happyfrog.ca, and ChangeEverything.ca. Through these projects and others, we’ve built a large network of local, national and international colleagues and clients that you’ll work with on a regular basis.

Maintaining a healthy balance with our lives outside the workplace lets us give our clients and their projects our very best. And our pride in the team we’ve built means we work hard to recognize the contribution each person makes to our efforts—and to support and acknowledge their commitments outside the company, too.

WHO WE NEED: We’re looking for a social media strategist who can work with a team to create innovative visions for online community and social media projects, and turn those visions into reality.  The right person is great with people, words, technology and details.  We need someone who is a strategic communicator: a great writer who thinks in terms of messages, audiences and communications goals. Someone who lives and breathes online, and who is contagiously passionate about what Web 2.0 means for organizations and the world social media. Someone with client relations, public relations or account management experience: a true people person who is also terrific at managing projects, tracking details and getting it all done.  Someone who shares our excitement about how social media can support organizational innovation and progressive social change.

If you enjoy working in a stimulating environment with creative, warm people, you'll find that that our bustling pace is balanced by our sense of playfulness, our friendly working relationships, and our commitment to team-based work. We’re looking for that beautiful mind-meld that happens when you believe in the mission you’re supporting, and get the full appreciation your contribution deserves.

WHAT YOU'LL DO: As the ninth member of our team, you'll work closely with Social Signal's senior strategists to manage client engagements, create innovative online community strategies, and launch new social media projects.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • managing client relationships
  • planning and managing projects
  • developing social media strategies as part of a team
  • writing engagement and promotions plans
  • developing estimates and writing proposals
  • creating Keynote/PowerPoint presentations and assisting in trainings
  • facilitating workshops and writing workshop reports
  • writing blog posts and white papers about social media

WHO YOU ARE: You are equal parts social media evangelist, strategic communicator, writer-blogger and project manager. You're passionate about social media and about social change. And you're ready for a stimulating, challenging and meaningful job that makes the most of your extraordinary and varied set of talents.

You don't need to be a programmer or developer, but you do need to be fluent in the use and significance of social web tools. You've been blogging for at least two years, and your idea of a fun evening is to check out a couple of new social networks or a new online application. You're familiar with a wide range of social media platforms, web applications and online community examples. You've personally managed at least a couple of web projects to launch, working with designers and developers to create a successful web presence. And you've got at least one web success story under your belt: a blog post that made it to the front page of Digg, a YouTube video that went viral, or a Facebook stunt that got media coverage.

You need to be a clear communicator, detail-oriented, self-motivated, and someone who gets a lot of satisfaction from doing work that makes a real difference to people and organizations. As a small team we all spend lots of time working independently, so you need to thrive both in close collaboration and on stretches of solo work. You get a lot done in the course of a day, and your colleagues enjoy working with you.
Applicants will have a Bachelor's degree; Master's degree or higher preferred. This is a full-time, mid-level position for someone who is looking for a job with long-run potential. Compensation will be commensurate with skills and experience.

HOW TO APPLY: Please complete our online application form AND e-mail a résumé, cover letter and salary expectations to [email protected] by January 16, 2009. We will consider applications as we receive them, so please submit as soon as possible.
